Sunday Funday at the New England Auto Show

Moving to New England from California one of my concerns other than the nearest In-N-Out Burger being 1800 miles away, was car culture. Southern California is the capital of car culture. On any given weekend there are car clubs of all types getting together for a meet; from import tuners to connoisseur of classics. Usually having great weather, cars can be enjoyed year around in southern California. The LA Auto Show is one of the top shows for manufacturers to introduce new models, next to the North American Auto Show, Frankfurt, and Geneva.

Fortunately there is a car culture here in New England. Sometimes I think it may be even stronger than in California. Car enthusiasts put their toys away for the winter for fear of road salt, traction issues and have to keep them under wraps until the weather allows. This creates some feelings of longing to get behind the wheel and take a blast down the road. Come spring/summer you see cars that have been hibernating many of which have been wrenched on in garages.

I had the pleasure of attending the 2017 New England International Auto Show a few weeks ago. While not as big as Los Angeles, and the noticeable absence of BMW. I still enjoyed the show, un-retired my old Nikon D50 “Rita”* and took a few shots. They managed to fit quite a few vehicles into the hall. I did not get a chance to visit all of the booths. I did get to see the new Alfa Romeo Giulia which I was most interested in. Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio in Bianca

Unfortunately it was on a platform so you could not sit in it. The only one there was a Ti trim in a rather bland bianca and not the hot Quadrifoglio model. The Quadrifogio model has a rather attractive carbon front lip spoiler, hood vents, a fender vent that meets with the body hip line that runs down the car. The non-Quad cars do not and in white it looks kind of bland as shown below. As you can see it’s pretty vanilla in the non-Quad models. I really like this car and can’t wait to see it in other colors. Below are the shots I took at the show.

*Rita is the name of my Nikon D50. Yes, I named my camera, I don’t know if I will name future cameras but she’s my first DSLR. If you’d like a hi-res copy of an image for your personal, non-commercial use let me know.
